Thank you for your interest in Hearts4heart Advocacy Training Academy.

The Hearts4Heart Advocacy Training Academy is designed to empower individuals with lived experiences of heart disease to drive change in policy, research, and advocacy. This program provides training in health policy, media engagement, and committee participation, equipping participants with the skills to share their stories effectively and influence decision-making.

The academy includes self-paced learning via the Advocacy Masterclass Platform and will be hosted by renowned journalist Shelly Horton and health advocate Krystal Barter. The program runs from April to December 2025.

Key Program Areas

  1. Health Policy & Advocacy – Provides a strong foundation in policy and advocacy, empowering participants to influence change effectively
  2. Research & Clinical Guidelines – Equips participants with skills to interpret and understand research and clinical guideline processes to provide meaningful contributions to relevant committees
  3. Media Training and Advocacy Skills – Trains and prepares participants for public engagements and media opportunities, through robust media and presentation training focusing on confidence-building and storytelling to amplify participants’ voices in the public domain
  4. Capacity Building for Committee Participation – Offers guidance on navigating meeting structures, presenting their perspective and engaging collaboratively with other committee members enabling participants to take on roles within committees, advisory boards and other decision-making bodies

The Advocacy Training Academy runs from April to December 2025 and includes the following components:

  • Self-paced learning via the Advocacy Masterclass platform, featuring 14 online modules with over 20 hours of video content
  • Two, 2-hour interactive online sessions led by experts in their field
  • A full-day, in-person media training in Sydney to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge to speak about their condition to media.
